Tellus Group
Tellus Group is a team of entrepreneurs and professionals with different and complementary backgrounds:
The combination of people with different professional backgrounds has enabled us to become a leading rice producer in Europe, in terms of quality as well as quantity.
We first brought our know-how to Romania. Here, thanks to important investments and training, we began producing and commercializing rice. Today, through an MBO model, it is our “boys” who manage our approx. 5’000 ha.
Today we want to continue to invest in what we do best: managing the best human and land resource to guarantee secure yields, environmental sustainability and the continuous improvement of agricultural processes, in order to ensure food for future generations.
Our History
We at Tellus begin as farmers, and have been rice growers for many generations.
We learned the cultivation technique of this ancient cereal from our Piedmontese ancestors and we bring it to the world with full respect for the land, for workers and for those who will consume our product.
From Italy we first moved to Romania, where we brought all our knowledge, which we adapted to the territory and to the climate that welcomed us. We taught all that we know and everything in which we believe to local producers, in order to produce in Romania rice “like we make it in Italy, in Piedmont”. We taught people what it means to husk this very precious cereal: to make it white, with a traditional and natural method.
The experience in Romania is still in constant evolution: we strive for continuously better results while reducing our use of resources, in particular water resources. We believe that the success of our company should not be at the expense of our already suffering planet.
But we do not want to stop here: we want to acquire land and companies in different places around the world, for example in America. We aim for there to be ever more ethical and sustainable cultivations of this precious cereal that is the main food staple for more than half of the world population.
We want to take our corporate philosophy worldwide: environmentally sustainable cultivation, with a fair treatment for employees and without the use of substances that are harmful to consumers and the atmosphere.
As a business, we also want to contribute to the fight against hunger, a worldwide plight that has been aggravated by the Covid-19 pandemic. 690 million people suffer from chronic malnutrition due to unequal economic conditions, wars, and climate change. Demand for food will grow in a way that is directly proportional to demographic growth, and will be most felt in the poorest places on Earth – we want to give people a way to respond to this need.
Investing in rice cultivation is not only a business objective – it is a way to bring employment and nutrition all over the planet, while trying to have the smallest possible impact on the climate and on soil use, and while providing people in disadvantaged areas with the know-how to build profitable business experiences that help improve their collective quality of life.
